Dear Colleague,

Attached below, kindly find the Word version of the ninth and final issue of
the WCD newsletter, DAMS.

The bulk of it involves remarks, comments, perspectives and analysis by
those outside the WCD: Forum members. Dam practitioners. Non-governmental
organisations. Observers. Institutions. The issue, like the Report itself,
has been largely turned over to others.

But let us call your attention to two small articles involving the WCD
itself:

First, we are distributing, enclosed with the hard copy version of the
newsletter which you should receive starting next week, two complimentary
copies of the WCD CD-Rom, which contains the Final Report (in two
languages), the 28 page Overview (in nine), the complete and voluminous
knowledge base, and the entire WCD archive of photos, newsletters, speeches,
contacts, pamphlets etc. We hope you find it as useful as it is
comprehensive. If you would like to order the CD Roms in bulk for
distribution within stakeholder organisations, please contact us.

Second, the official body of the World Commission on Dams is, as the lead
article notes, "gone but not forgotten." But from April 1 through July 31,
a small team, led by Jeremy Bird, will remain on hand in the former WCD
offices at 58 Loop Street during the transition period to set up the
independent Dams & Development Unit as chartered by the WCD Forum. From
August 1 onward the new DDU will be hosted by the UNEP in a location yet to
be determined. We can still be contacted at the same phone numbers and email
addresses.

 <<Newsletter no. 9 Finale.doc>>

Thank you, and enjoy.
